A Discovery Flight is the way almost everyone starts at Ozark Aero. It costs $149, you fly with a flight instructor beside you the whole time, and once you’re airborne you take the controls. It is a real first lesson rather than a sightseeing ride, and there is nothing to sign up for afterwards.
Before you fly
You meet your instructor at the hangar — the big one behind the VFD on Bayou Rd at Mountain View Airport, 1501 Airport Ln. You’ll talk about what you want out of flying, whether that’s a Private Pilot certificate, a career, or just finding out if this is for you. Then you walk around the airplane together on the preflight inspection, the same check every pilot does before every flight.
In the air
Mountain View Airport (7M2) is a quiet, uncontrolled field with a 4,502-foot paved runway, which makes it a relaxed place to learn. Once you’re up, your instructor hands you the controls: you’ll climb, turn and level off yourself, with a hand ready beside you the whole time. The airplanes have dual controls, so your instructor can take over at any moment.
Back on the ramp
After landing you talk through the flight and ask anything you like — how training works at a Part 61 school, what it costs for your goals, how often you’d need to fly. There is no sales pitch at the end. The next step is yours to decide.
Do I need any experience?
No. Most students start with no flying experience at all, and you don’t need a medical certificate for a lesson with an instructor. You will need one before you fly solo.
